Do you keep searching for the best option, or settle happily on one that is good enough? This six-item short form of the Maximization Scale (Nenkov, Morrin, Ward, Schwartz & Hulland, 2008) looks at three sides of how you choose: searching for alternatives, finding decisions difficult, and holding high standards. It takes about one minute and gives you an average score with a read of all three parts.

Rate how much you agree with each statement, from 1 (completely disagree) to 7 (completely agree). There are no right or wrong answers. Two statements mention older situations (the car radio, renting videos); if they do not fit your life, answer for the closest thing you do today, such as switching playlists or picking something to stream.
When I am in the car listening to the radio, I often check other stations to see if something better is playing, even if I am relatively satisfied with what I'm listening to.
No matter how satisfied I am with my job, it's only right for me to be on the lookout for better opportunities.
I often find it difficult to shop for a gift for a friend.
Renting videos is really difficult. I'm always struggling to pick the best one.
No matter what I do, I have the highest standards for myself.
I never settle for second best.
